Highland Council redundancy packages to cost £13m

Highland Council is set to hand out more than £13m in redundancy payments to staff.

The local authority began seeking volunteers to take redundancy last year and 340 workers have had their applications accepted.

The total cost of the packages is about £1m more than the council had thought it would have to pay out.

The redundancies will result in year-on-year savings of more than £10m, according to a report to councillors.
