NHS Western Isles has highlighted the scenery and dark skies opportunities of its area to draw interest to two vacancies available to doctors.

In a tweet about the training fellowships on offer, it has uploaded a picture showing a starry night with the Aurora Borealis.

Other images show the landscape of the Western Isles.

Another health board, NHS Highland, has also in the past flagged up its area's scenery to potential recruits.

Earlier this week, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh said surgeons should be encouraged to regard working in rural hospitals as a "viable career choice".

RCSEd said many surgeons considered appoints outside central Scotland as "remote".

This has caused recruitment and retention problems at rural hospitals, including sites in the Western and Northern Isles, Wick and Oban.

RCSEd said trainees and trainers should have a higher regard for rural posts.
