Pairc Estate buyout: Residents formally take over estate

People living on the Pairc Estate in Lewis have formally taken over the land following a community buyout.

Residents launched Scotland's first hostile buyout four years ago, before an agreement was reached with private landowner Barry Lomas late in 2013.

Last year, 166 residents voted for the buyout, with 77 against.

It has cost the trust £500,000 to purchase the 26,775 acres (10,835ha). Funding towards the cost was offered from public bodies.

These included the Scottish Land Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Western Isles local authority, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
