UK military search and rescue helicopter crews have recorded their quietest month in eight years.

The 96 callouts in November 2013 were the lowest number since February 2005, according to new figures from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

RAF Valley in Anglesey responded to the most incidents, 17, followed by RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall with 16.

The busiest station in Scotland was HMS Gannet in Ayrshire with 15 callouts. RAF Lossiemouth in Moray dealt with 14.

The Scottish units had the UK's highest total flying hours in November.

Both had a total of 32 hours at an average of two hours and 21 minutes per callout for Gannet and two hours and nine minutes for Lossiemouth.
