A82 reopens after lorry crash near Urquhart Castle

The A82 in the Highlands has reopened after a lorry carrying empty gas cylinders crashed and ended up on its side.

The crash, near Urquhart Castle, closed the road in both directions between Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston, from 14:25 on Friday.

A cordon was initially set up as a precaution.

The lorry driver, 51, was taken to hospital in Inverness. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Insp Neil Lumsden said: "An initial cordon was put in place until we could establish what the lorry load was, this was to ensure the safety of the public and all the emergency services involved in the incident."

He said it had been a "complex recovery" as it involved the recovery of the load followed by the recovery of the lorry which was on its side across the entire A82 carriageway.

"Once that is complete we will need to assess any damage that has been caused to the road surface," he said.
