Nairn festival launch for Man Booker Prize entry
A Man Booker Prize long-listed author is to launch her debut novel at the 10th Nairn Book and Arts Festival.
Eve Harris's The Marrying Chani Kaufmann has been published by Dingwall-based Sandstone Press.
It is on the long-list for the 2013 Man Booker Prize. The award's shortlist will be announced on 10 September.
Three other books will be launched during the Nairn festival, which runs from 3 to 8 September at venues in and around the town.
The other launches include Land of Dreams by Norwegian crime writer Vidar Sundstol.
It is the final book in the Sundstol's Minnesota Trilogy and has attracted interest from film-makers in the US.
Festival organisers said they wanted the programme for the 10th anniversary event to be more "adventurous".
It features a song-writing competition and a political debate on Scottish independence.
Highland SNP MSP Fergus Ewing and Liberal Democrat MP Danny Alexander will argue the case for and against independence.
Festival guests will include BBC Radio 4 broadcaster James Naughtie, MFR radio presenter Nicky Marr, fashion designer Sandra Murray and comedy actress Sara Pascoe.
Pascoe appeared in The Thick of It and Twenty Twelve, which was named best situation comedy at the British Academy Television Awards in May.
