Ivan Macdonald dies after being hit by car in North Uist

A man who died after being hit by a car in the Western Isles has been named.

Ivan Macdonald, 33, from Baleshare, North Uist, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene of the accident.

It happened on the A865 between Clachan and Carinish on North Uist at about 01:45 on Sunday. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The road was closed for almost 14 hours while police carried out an investigation.

Well known on the islands as a piper, Mr Macdonald helped to run a croft.

Friends and family have described him as an "amazing guy" and a "true gentleman".
