In pictures: Ice climbing at the Slochd near Inverness
Two ice climbers tackled frozen crags at the Slochd on the A9 between Inverness and Aviemore earlier this week. Images courtesy of Ron Walker, of Carrbridge
With a reputation today as the scene of difficult driving conditions in winter, the Slochd was in the past reputed to be the haunt of robbers and a place of danger for government troops pursuing the Jacobite army during 1745
The frozen crags can be seen from the A9
The two climbers, called Hanna and George, made their ascent during a long period of freezing conditions
The pair made their climb under cold blue skies
