Lewis's disrupted 999 service restored ahead of storm

Police have said a problem with making 999 calls from parts of Lewis on the Western Isles has been resolved.

Shawbost, Borve and Carloway were affected for several hours. A total of 985 phone lines had been involved.

The collapse of the service came ahead of Met Office warnings of storm force winds over the islands.

All schools on the Western Isles have closed early because of the forecast, the islands' council Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has said.

The local authority also said evening bus services would be disrupted and sports facilities would be closing early.
