Would-be model settles £3.5m crash claim

A prospective model's claim for £3.5m over a car crash which left her badly injured has been settled out of court.

Rachel Davis, 22, uses a wheelchair after the car she was a front seat passenger in came off the A832 Avoch to Munlochy Road in March 2006.

It was alleged driver John Catto, her boyfriend at the time, was racing another car driven by Stephen Skinner.

A judge at the Court of Session was told a deal had been reached, but no figures were given in court.

Lost control

Judge Lord Brailsford had been expecting to hear three weeks of evidence from medical and other experts on the effects of the injuries suffered by the woman.

Miss Davis, who had hoped to become a model, lodged claim against Mr Catto, 20, of Muir of Ord, and his insurers last year because of her injuries.

Mr Skinner, 22, from Fortrose and a footballer with Ross County FC at the time of the crash, had faced paying 20% of any damages and expenses she was claiming because of his part in the accident.

The Court of Session previously heard that Mr Catto lost control and crashed shortly after witnesses said they had seen his car and Mr Skinner's being driven and overtaking at speed.

Evidence heard by a judge suggested both were driving at high speed.
