Highland Council recruitment freeze agreed

A recruitment freeze in all "non-essential posts" at Highland Council has been agreed by the local authority's resources committee.

Members also agreed that the council should make less use of agency workers.

Highland, which is having to find savings running to tens of millions of pounds, spends almost £400,000 a month on agency employees.

SNP group finance spokesman Drew Hendry attacked the level of spending on hiring temporary workers.
