Police identify man seriously hurt in Ayrshire crash

Police have now identified the man who was seriously hurt in a crash in North Ayrshire.

He was hit by a vehicle on the B780 near Kilbirnie early on Monday and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police had earlier released images of the man to help with his identification.

His family have now been notified and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The road was closed for six hours following the incident at about 06:20 close to East Mains Farm.

Sgt Kevin Blackley had appealed for information, saying the man "sustained serious injuries in the incident and it's imperative his family is found."

A police statement thanked the public for their help identifying the man.

Police also appealed for help from witnesses and motorists with dashcam footage of the man or the vehicle before the crash.
