Two men have been burned after coming into contact with a liquid at a distillery in South Ayrshire.

The incident happened in Girvan at about 16:35 on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said the men made their way to Girvan Community hospital where they were treated initially before being taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital.

One of the men, a 31-year-old, has been released, but a 25-year-old remains in hospital suffering from serious burns.

'No wider risk'

A number of staff at the hospital have also received treatment for minor skin irritations they received while treating the two men.

Police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remained at the distillery site and the hospital in Girvan, which has been cordoned off as a precaution.

However, the incident has been contained and there is no wider risk to the public.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
