House in Airdrie set on fire with occupants inside

Police are searching for two men who set fire to a house in North Lanarkshire while the occupants were inside.

The incident happened in North Biggar Road, Airdrie, at about 20:30 on Sunday.

Police said the occupants had heard a bang and discovered a fire when they went to investigate.

Two men were seen climbing the garden fence of the house. Police are appealing for information.

Det Sgt Cameron Miller, of Police Scotland, said: "We believe this was a targeted attack and it is critical that we trace those responsible as quickly as possible.

"From our inquiries so far, we understand that two men climbed fencing to get into the garden of the property and I would appeal to anyone living nearby who may have seen them to come forward.

"I would also ask anyone in the surrounding area who noticed two men acting suspiciously around the time of the incident to get in touch."
