Vandals cause £20,000 of damage at railway maintenance yard

Vandals have caused about £20,000 of damage to equipment at a railway maintenance yard in South Lanarkshire.

The depot in Hamilton's Clydesdale Street was broken into between 16:00 on Wednesday 9 November and 01:30 on Thursday 10 November.

British Transport Police said damage was caused to equipment, including two mobile elevated work platforms, fire extinguishers and cabinets.

Officers want to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious.

Det Con Kevin Foulis said: "I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in the Clydesdale Street area, in the early hours of 9 November.

"A considerable amount of damage was caused to railway equipment, and acts of vandalism like this will not be tolerated.

"It is likely that there was a lot of noise, so please, if you heard anything that could help with our investigation, contact me."
