Brutal attacker back in prison for carrying knife

A man who was released early from a prison term over an attack which left his victim brain damaged, has been jailed after being caught with a knife.

George Mullaney, 27, was jailed for nine years for brutally attacking Gary Sharkey in Glasgow on 28 November 2009.

He was released on licence on 14 March this year but found in possession of a knife in the city on 13 August.

At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lady Rae ordered Mullaney back to prison for 18 months.

She told Mullaney: "You were convicted in 2010 of an extremely serious charge. Your victim is unlikely to ever lead an independent life .

"You were out on licence and within six months you are severely under the influence of alcohol with a knife."
