Police are attempting to trace a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in a park in Renfrewshire.

The 15-year-old was speaking to the man in Robertson Park, Renfrew, when he attacked her at 22:45 on Monday.

She left the park afterwards and contacted police who are now appealing for witnesses.

The man is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, of slim build and with dark hair, which was cut short at the sides and longer on top.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt with a black and grey pattern on it, and a black puffa-style jacket.

Det Ch Insp Filippo Capaldi said: "Extensive inquiries are under way to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and to trace the person responsible.

"Additional officers will be on patrol to provide reassurance to members of the public and I would like to speak to anyone who was in the park or surrounding area on Monday night.

"Perhaps you were out walking your dog or making your way home from somewhere? If you saw or heard anything suspicious or a man matching the description, please get in touch."
