Man jailed for sex abuse of four girls 40 years ago

A 71-year-old man has been jailed for five years for sexually abusing four young girls in West Dunbartonshire more than 40 years ago.

Norman Duncan was convicted of the offences, in the Bonhill area, between 1968 and 1976.

He was found guilty of six charges of sexual abuse after his victims gave evidence against him during a trial at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

Duncan was also be placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Following sentencing, Det Ch Insp Graham Cordner, who led the investigation, said: "Norman Duncan managed to escape justice for 40 years and I have no doubt that he believed he would never be caught, but today, he is facing the consequences of his despicable crimes.

"Duncan preyed on four young girls and subjected them to things that no child should ever have to experience.

"I would like to thank the victims for their tremendous courage in coming forward, assisting officers with their inquiries, testifying in court, and ultimately ensuring that Duncan is now behind bars."
