Shawlands Academy closed after power substation incident
Pupils are being sent home early from a school in Glasgow following an incident at an electricity substation.
Shawlands Academy was evacuated as a precaution after banging noises were reported at the substation near Moss Side Road at about 10:20 on Friday.
Emergency services were alerted and the incident was brought under control.
Glasgow City Council said the school was without power and S4 to S6 pupils had been sent home. Parents of younger pupils have been asked to collect them.
Glasgow City Council said on Twitter: "Evacuation at Shawlands Academy over following power cut. Power remains off & S4-6 pupils now being sent home wi younger siblings.
"Parents of S1-S3 pupils at Shawlands Acad asked to collect their children as soon as poss. Children looked after til parents arrive."
A spokeswoman for Scottish Power said engineers were at the scene and a fault in the substation was being repaired.
She said power was expected to be restored to the school by about 12:30.
