Man who brutally raped woman jailed for five years

A man who brutally raped a woman at a flat in Renfrewshire has been jailed for five years.

Charles Graham, 46, forced himself on his 46-year-old victim and ignored her pleas to stop at the address in Paisley in October 2013.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that she suffered "significant trauma" and was treated in hospital for four days after the attack.

Graham was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Jailing him, judge Lord Clark told Graham he had committed a grave offence and added: "There is no appropriate alternative to a custodial sentence."

Lord Clark said: "I note your position is to continue to deny you committed the offence."
