Inquiry into man found injured in North Ayrshire street now attempted murder probe

Police have said a man who was found injured in a North Ayrshire street was attacked and they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The 44-year-old was discovered near the Saracen's Head Hotel, on Eglinton Street, Beith, at 00:05 on Monday.

He is being treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for a serious head injury.

Police said they were following a number of lines of inquiry and have appealed for information.

Det Insp William McDicken said: "Officers are following a number of lines of enquiry and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this assault take place, or who was in the area at the time and has information that may assist our investigation to contact detectives."
