Police appeal after attempted murder in Stevenston

Police are investigating an attempted murder following a "violent attack" in North Ayrshire which left two men injured, one of them critically.

A 30-year-old man and a 52-year-old man were found seriously hurt following a report of a disturbance at a property on Misk Knowes, Stevenston, at about 15:15 on Saturday.

Both were taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The 30-year-old was released following treatment for a serious injury.

The 52-year-old was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Medical staff described his condition as critical.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack, or has any information that may assist the police investigation, to come forward.

'Violent attack'

Det Insp Alan McAlpine said: "Inquiries are ongoing at this time to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Local residents may have heard a disturbance within the property or just outside at the time of the incident.

"This was a violent attack which has resulted in a man sustaining life-threatening injuries.

"We have conducted a number of door-to-door interviews in the area and continue to seek information from the public to trace the person responsible."
