Police are attempting to trace a man who robbed a bookmakers in Darvel.

The man threatened two female members of staff within the Ladbrokes shop, in the East Ayrshire town's East Main Street, at about 18:30 on Thursday.

He then made off, with a three-figure sum of cash, towards Cross Street and West Donnington Street.

Neither woman was injured but both were left distressed by the robbery. Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Suspect description

The suspect is described as white, about 6ft tall, in his early 30s, of slim build with dark brown hair and facial hair.

He spoke with a Northern Irish accent and was wearing a blue hooded top with the hood up, black trousers, black and white training shoes and gloves.

Det Insp Michael Carr said: "This was a very distressing experience for the two members of staff who fortunately were not physically injured.

"The area would have been busy with local residents and commuters at the time of the incident and I'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen the culprit hanging around prior to the robbery taking place or leaving the premises afterwards.

"I also urge anyone who has dash cam footage that may have captured the suspects in the area to contact police immediately."
