Appeal over targeted attack outside pub in Kirkintilloch

Police are attempting to trace a man who carried out a serious assault outside a pub in East Dunbartonshire.

The 33-year-old victim was attacked outside the Chase Inn, Merkland Drive, Kirkintilloch, at 21:30 on Saturday.

He was treated for a serious facial injury at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie and later discharged.

Police believe the attack was "targeted". They want to trace a man and woman who were outside the pub at the time and may have seen the assault.

Witness descriptions

The man is described as white, 20 to 24 years old and about 6ft tall. He was wearing shorts and a grey hoodie at the time and was on his mobile phone.

The woman is described as white and aged between 20 and 30 years old. She was wearing patterned trousers and carrying a camera. She had just come out of the smoking area at the time of the attack.

Det Con Stevie Cooke said: "From our inquiries so far, we believe that this was a targeted attack.

"The injured man had been in the pub and at some point was seen in the company of at least five or six other men.

"About 2130 hours, he went outside the pub near to the smoking area, where he was assaulted by at least one man."

'Not football-related'

The detective said the "pub was very busy that night" as it was after the Celtic v Rangers game - but the attack is not being treated as football-related.

"I have no doubt that people would have seen or heard the incident take place," he said.

"Indeed, after viewing CCTV we are keen to speak to two people in particular, a man and a woman, who were outside the pub at the time and who we think saw the attack happen.

"I would ask both of them to contact police or, if for any reason they are reluctant to come forward, to call Crimestoppers in confidence. Their information could help our investigation."
