A 24-year old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a pensioner in the east end of Glasgow last week.

Peter Telfer is accused of stabbing and killing 76-year old John Baker and also of robbing one woman and assaulting another with intent to rob.

He made no plea when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Mr Baker died after being found in a street in the Bridgeton area, in the early hours of 29 June. He had lived in nearby Tobago Street.

Mr Telfer, from Calton, Glasgow, was remanded in custody and will appear in court again next week for a full committal hearing.
