Two injured after cars pelted with bricks and bottles on M73 slip road

Two people required hospital treatment after a group of youths pelted cars with bricks and bottles at a motorway side road in North Lanarkshire.

Police said four vehicles were damaged after being attacked on a slip road, exiting the M73 southbound at J2, near Bargeddie at 20:10 on Saturday.

A 54-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were treated for injuries at Monklands Hospital and later released.

Four youths, aged between 14 and 17, are thought to have been involved.

All were male.

The first was said to be wearing a dark hooded top with a yellow hood.

'Extremely dangerous'

The second youth was described as having ginger hair and wearing jogging bottoms.

The third youth was wearing a white top with a large logo on the chest and the fourth youth was wearing a grey top and grey jogging bottoms.

Det Sgt Alan MacDonald said: "This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a fatality due to the mindless action of those responsible.

"It would have still been daylight around the time of the incident and I would appeal to any drivers or members of the public who saw what happened to get in touch."
