Man needs surgery after air gun attack in Kirkintilloch

A man is in hospital awaiting surgery after being shot in the leg with an air pellet while walking his dog.

The 25-year-old was struck while walking along Alloway Quadrant, in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, at about 22:00 on Monday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where his condition is described as stable.

Police described the attack as "stupid" and have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Det Con Stephen Cooke said: "We are checking CCTV and making inquiries with nearby neighbours regarding this attack.

"It is so irresponsible for people to fire air rifles at random, never mind at a person. It's just stupid and could be extremely dangerous.

"This time the pellet struck the man in the leg, which is serious enough, but imagine what could have happened if it was in his head or face for example."
