Gang of youths sought over 'motiveless' attack on two men

Police are attempting to trace a gang of about 18 to 20 youths who attacked two men of a footpath in Glasgow.

The victims, both aged 24, were set upon between Old Wood Road and Stirling Path, in the city's Baillieston area, at about 18:00 on Saturday.

One suffered facial injuries and the other a broken arm. Both were treated in hospital and later discharged.

The youths involved in the "motiveless" attack were described as between the ages of 14 and 18 years old.

They were wearing a variety of dark clothing, mainly tracksuit trousers and tops.

No motive

Following the attack, the group ran through an area, known locally as Bannerman Park, towards Barrachnie and Garrowhill areas.

Detectives have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and are looking to obtain CCTV footage from the area.

Forensic officers have also been conducting a search of the area and a number of items have been seized for examination.

Det Con Nick McGlynn said: "Clearly this group was intent on causing trouble - there was no motive for the attack other than to target two men who were on their way home.

"We are following up a number of lines of inquiry but I know there is still information out there and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact us."
