Johnstone bottle attacker gets jail warning

A man who carried out an attack with a bottle on someone who tried to break up a fight in Renfrewshire has been warned he faces jail.

Daryn Dolan, 26, hit Kieran Barstow, 24, with a bottle which smashed, before using it to repeatedly injure him.

The attack in Ferguson Street, Johnstone, happened in June last year.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Dolan, from Linwood, admitted assaulting Mr Barstow to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

He was originally charged with attempted murder but his plea to a reduced charge was accepted.

Judge Lord Glennie, deferring sentence to the High Court in Edinburgh, told Dolan: "I think you must be under no illusion as to the likely sentence to be imposed.

"It is very likely to be a custodial sentence."
