Flat blaze in Paisley was 'deliberate and dangerous'

A fire in a flat in Renfrewshire has been described by police as a "deliberate and dangerous act".

Emergency services were called to the top-floor flat in George Street, Paisley, at about 21:50 on Monday.

No-one was in the flat at the time and no other residents in the block needed to be removed from their homes.

Police have appealed for information after a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service concluded the blaze was "wilful".

Det Insp Sandy Nelson, of Police Scotland, said: "Luckily nobody was within the property at the time and officers are working to establish any potential motives for this deliberate and dangerous act.

"We have had a report of a man, described as around 5ft 9in and wearing dark clothing, leaving the building around the time of the fire.

"Officers are looking into this report, however we still need more information to help us find whoever is responsible."
