A man has been left with a serious facial injury after he was violently assaulted while waiting for a bus.

The 44-year-old was attacked by another man at East Kilbride bus station at about 22:15 on Saturday.

The suspect, who was with a woman, was last seen heading towards the Murray area of the South Lanarkshire town.

He was described as being in his late 30s or early 40s, with dark hair. He was wearing a dark grey suit jacket, a white shirt and dark trousers.

The woman was about the same age with dark shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and carrying a bright red handbag.

Det Con Leane Holmes said: "This was a violent assault that has left the victim with a serious facial injury and it is important that we trace the person responsible.

"Officers have been carrying out inquiries locally, including examining CCTV, however I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious."
