Erskine man jailed for 'revenge porn' offence

A man has been jailed after he admitted posting intimate pictures of his ex-partner on social media sites.

Sheriff David Pender said Kevin McKeeve, 26, had acted "out of spiteful revenge" by posting naked pictures of his victim on Twitter.

Paisley Sheriff court heard that McKeeve's ex-girlfriend had been left in an "extremely distressed state".

McKeeve was charged with causing fear and alarm by repeatedly sending texts and threatening messages.

Jailing him for six month, Sheriff Pender said he had given the case "very anxious thought".

He added: "This was a serious breach of trust. Young people these days seem to be quite happy to take pictures of each other and them make them available to others."

Sheriff Pender said what McKeeve had resorted to was "tantamount to blackmail" as he threatened to post intimate images of his ex-partner online because she was not replying to his text messages - then put naked pictures online for others to see.

He was told that McKeeve, from Erskine, had 225 followers on his Twitter account who could have had access to the images, each of whom had the potential to make them available to others.
