Two men have escaped with a four-figure sum of cash after threatening staff with knives at a shop in Alexandria.

The men targeted the Co-operative Food store in the West Dunbartonshire town's Argyle Street at about 21:55 on Monday.

The two male members of staff, aged 23 and 25, who were threatened were uninjured but left badly shaken.

Police said the men who carried out the raid had their faces covered, and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

The first suspect is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a dark top and light blue jeans.

The second suspect is described as white, 6ft tall and of stocky build. He was wearing dark clothing.

Det Sgt Stuart Grainger said: "Both men had their faces covered during this robbery, so inquiries are ongoing to identify them.

"At this time, I would ask anyone who may have witnessed these two men acting suspiciously in the local area around the time of the robbery, or anyone with information that may assist the police investigation to contact Police Scotland."
