A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a van in the north of Glasgow.

The 44-year-old was crossing Springburn Road when he was hit by a southbound Mercedes Sprinter van, near the KFC, at about 17:30 on Sunday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition has been described as critical but stable. The 77-year-old van driver was not injured.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.

Sgt Nicola Taylor said: "It would appear that the man was attempting to cross the carriageway when he was struck by the van which stopped immediately at the scene.

"We have already spoken to people who stopped to assist the man but are still looking for further witnesses who were in the area at the time to contact police with any information about the incident."
