Plans for 140 greenbelt homes near Torrance rejected

Plans to build 140 homes on greenbelt near Torrance have been rejected by East Dunbartonshire Council.

The authority's planning board reached the decision after hearing that the application by Hallam Land Management was contrary to the local plan.

There were also concerns that the increase in traffic would compromise pedestrian safety around the village.

The board heard too that the local school does not have capacity to cope with the proposed development.

Planning board chair, Councillor Billy Hendry, said: "We had 178 objections from villagers and nearby residents, concerned at the impact that the housing development would have on the local area.

"I share their concerns and I am pleased that the planning board reached the decision it did."
