Three people in court over stabbings on Largs to Glasgow train

Two men and a woman have appeared in court charged with assault after a ticket collector and another man were stabbed on board a train.

The incident happened as the 14:54 Largs to Glasgow Central service approached West Kilbride station in Ayrshire at about 15:05 on Sunday.

The ticket collector is in a stable condition in hospital while the other injured man was treated by paramedics.

The accused made no pleas when they appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

Thomas McCulloch, 21, of Saltcoats, was accused of two charges of assault to injury.

James Bunce, 35 and Terri Reid, 26, both of Ardrossan, are charged with assault and assault to injury.

Mr McCulloch was remanded in custody while Mr Bunce, also known as James Gilmour, and Ms Reid were freed on bail.

British Transport Police said the train was held at West Kilbride while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The 43-year-old ticket examiner is being treated at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. The other victim, who is 40, was treated for a minor injury to his body but did not need to attend hospital.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: "We do not tolerate crime on the railway and we are fully co-operating with British Transport Police in their investigation."
