Police have launched a murder inquiry after a 49-year-old man died two days after being found with serious injuries at his home in West Dunbartonshire.

John McCallum was discovered at about 21:30 on Thursday at his home in Meldrum Street, Whitecrook, Clydebank.

He died on Saturday at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow.

The murder inquiry was launched after a post mortem examination. Police have appealed for witnesses who may have heard a disturbance in the area.

Det Insp George McAllister, of Police Scotland's major investigations teams, said: "We are currently carrying out door-to-door inquires within the local area in an attempt to find out the whereabouts of Mr McCallum prior to 2130 hrs on Thursday 18 December 2014.

"I'd also like to speak to anyone who was in Meldrum Street on Thursday evening and may have either heard a disturbance from within Mr McCallum's home, noticed anyone entering or leaving the address or hanging about within the street."
