Man, 21, found with burns at Glasgow railway line

A 21-year old man was taken to hospital after being found with burns at a railway line in the south of Glasgow.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the man was found "lying in a railway cutting" below Nursery Street, in the Pollokshaws area, at about 06:40.

It is thought he may have come in to contact with overhead power lines. The man is in a serious condition at the nearby Victoria Infirmary.

BTP said inquiries were continuing and have appealed for information.

Public appeal

Det Insp Grant Cathcart, of BTP, said he wanted to find out how the man came to be on the line.

"Our inquiries are at an early stage and I am anxious to speak with anyone who was in this area between 4.15am and 6.20am and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact BTP as a matter of urgency," he said.

Local train services were disrupted on Tuesday morning while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Services going through Pollokshaws West, Crossmyloof, Pollokshields East and Queens Park were disrupted but have since returned to normal.

Passengers affected were able to use their rail tickets on First Glasgow buses.
