Police say they are following a "definite line of inquiry" over the death of a man in a flat in Glasgow.

Officers have named 52-year-old Kenneth McNeill as the man who died after being attacked by an intruder in the house in the Scotstoun area on Thursday morning.

Police were called to the flat on Dumbarton Road at 00:55. Mr McNeill died at the scene.

The intruder had forced his way inside at 00:50 and "targeted" the victim, who was not the householder, police said.

Officers, who are treating the death as murder, said it was not a random attack.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 7in tall, with a medium to skinny build and short fair hair.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a light-coloured top.

Police said paramedics had attended the scene but were unable to save the victim.
