Three men have been arrested after cocaine worth millions of pounds was found hidden beneath a ship that had sailed to Scotland from Colombia.

Police discovered 108kg of the drug in the rudder area of Cape Maria, moored 2.8 miles from Largs, North Ayrshire.

The National Crime Agency said they arrested three Dutch men at a nearby hotel.

They also seized diving equipment, a rigid inflatable boat and an underwater scooter.

The ship had been waiting to berth at Hunterston terminal on Friday when officers from Police Scotland and the Border Force moved in.

The Dutch authorities were also involved in the operation.

The men were arrested at Seamill Hydro Hotel. They appeared on Tuesday at Leeds Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody.

The captain and crew are not believed to have been involved.
