Police investigating a sexual assault on a woman in Glasgow Green want to trace a man who may hold "vital" information for their inquiry.

The 27-year-old victim was attacked as she walked into the park from Saltmarket at about 23:30 on Saturday. She managed to break free and escape.

She later passed a man while crossing a footbridge from Glasgow Green into Adelphi Street in the Gorbals.

Police want to speak to him and anyone else who was in the park at the time.

Det Insp Diane Caldwell, of Police Scotland, said: "We are reviewing CCTV images and are assessing information which has been provided to us as part of our ongoing inquiries.

"As a result, I would like to appeal to a man who entered the park shortly after the incident."

'Vital information'

She added: "The victim made her way along a footbridge which leads from Glasgow Green into Adelphi Street in the Gorbals and remembers passing a man.

"If you were in the area at the time please contact us as a matter of urgency, you may have noticed something which seemed insignificant at the time but could prove vital in our investigation."

The victim was attacked as she was making her way home from work.

She did not need hospital treatment but was left badly shaken by her ordeal.

Following the assault, police said her attacker was white, about 5ft 8in tall, with short dark hair.

Forensic teams were deployed to examine areas of Glasgow Green.
