'Bit coin' tablets man, 21, in Hairmyres hospital

A 21-year-old is being treated in intensive care after taking what are believed to be Ecstasy tablets.

The man was found "in an agitated state" in Cadzow Bridge Square in Hamilton at about 08:55 on Saturday.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride and is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police said they believe he had taken at least three Ecstasy tablets known as "bit coin" - with a design resembling a letter B combined with a dollar sign.

Det Sgt Martin McKendrick said: "Illicit drugs are dangerous as has been proved on a number of occasions recently where people have been hospitalised.

"At this time we are trying to establish where exactly the man took the drugs and where he got them."

He added: "I would also urge anyone who has taken the drug and feels unwell, or who knows someone who has taken it in the last few hours to attend or contact their local hospital for treatment and advice."
