Man dies after car crashes into tree

A man has died and another is in a critical condition in hospital after the car they were travelling in hit a tree near Glasgow's Drumchapel area.

Police said the Suzuki car left the A82 Great Western Road at 23:00 on Sunday.

The 24-year-old passenger died at the scene. The 25-year-old driver is being treated for chest injuries at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Roof removed

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the collision took place near the boundary between Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire.

Clydebank Fire Station Commander Joe McKay said: "Firefighters removed the car's roof to give paramedics access to two men who were trapped inside.

"The crews used their professional skills to quickly and effectively enable the casualties to be released from the car, and they were working closely with ambulance colleagues throughout the operation.

"Sadly, one of the men was confirmed to have died at the scene. The other was taken by ambulance for treatment at the Western Infirmary."
