Race assault case against DC Lesley Strachan abandoned

A case against a police officer who was charged with a racial attack against her neighbour has been abandoned.

DC Lesley Strachan, 41, denied pushing Kathleen Reid, 44, before punching and slapping her repeatedly on the head.

The alleged incident - at Ms Reid's home in Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, on 15 July 2012 - was said to have been aggravated by racial prejudice.

DC Strachan was due to face trial at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court but the Crown decided to take no further action.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said: "Following full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, the procurator fiscal decided that further proceedings would not be in the public interest."

Police Scotland confirmed DC Strachan had not been suspended and added: "The matter is being considered by the deputy chief constable."
