Hamilton murder bid street attack on mother and son

Police are treating an attack on a mother and son in a South Lanarkshire street as assault and attempted murder.

The woman, 64, and her son, 41, were attacked following a row with a number of other people in Buchanan Crescent, Hamilton, at 21:00 on Tuesday.

She was treated for serious injuries to her arm, head and face. Her son remains in a critical condition in Hairmyers Hospital with a serious head injury.

It has also emerged the man was assaulted earlier in the evening.

The attack on the 41-year-old man took place following another disturbance in Buchanan Crescent.

Det Ch Insp Pat Campbell, of Police Scotland, said: "We're continuing extensive enquiries into this incident which resulted in a man sustaining life threatening injuries, and his mother also sustaining serious injuries in the incident, both of which also required emergency hospital treatment.

"We're carrying out door-to-door enquiries around the area to try to find out more information from local residents but I'd like to further this by appealing directly to the wider public for their assistance."
