An armed robbery at a beauty salon has led to an appeal for information from Strathclyde Police.

A man with what appeared to be a firearm entered J'Adore Beauty on Hillfoot Street in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow at 18:30 on Tuesday.

Two female members of staff, aged 27 and 24, were working.

After threatening the former, he stole her purse, "which contained hundreds of pounds", the police said in a statement.

"No firearm was discharged and, although physically uninjured, the members of staff were obviously left upset by what happened," they stated.

The suspect is in his mid-20s and around 5ft 9in in height.

His appearance is described as gaunt and he was wearing a red jacket with a high-visibility vest over the top.

Det Ins Alan Burton added: "The suspect made his escape on foot across Duke Street and onto Bellfield Street, which would both have been busy with traffic and pedestrians at that time of night.

"His red jacket and high-visibility vest were very distinctive, so I'd ask anyone who saw him to get in touch.

"In the meantime, we're checking CCTV footage for clues as well as carrying out door to door enquiries."
