Elderly man hurt in Larkhall house fire

An elderly man has been treated for burns and smoke inhalation after he was rescued from a fire at his home in Larkhall in the early hours.

Police and fire crews are investigating the cause of the blaze, which happened in Croft Place in the South Lanarkshire town, at about 06:00.

Around the same time firefighters dealt with a tenement fire in High Street, Johnstone, in Renfrewshire

One woman resident was treated for slight smoke inhalation.

A police officer who assisted at the scene was taken to hospital as a precaution.
