Police have confirmed the identity of a woman who was allegedly murdered by her son in South Ayrshire last week.

Ann Morris, 63, died in hospital following an incident at her home in Polo Gardens, Troon, on Friday night.

Her husband Fred, 64, was seriously injured in the same incident.

The couple's son, Graime, 38, has been charged with murder and attempted murder. He made no plea or declaration at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

Officers were called to the Morris' home, in South Ayrshire, at 19:45 on Friday.

The couple were taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where Mrs Morris later died.

On Saturday, police said officers were travelling to London to talk to Mr Morris, who was being held in custody in connection with the incident.

He was escorted to Scotland and arrested on Monday.
