Glasgow murder inquiry after William McKenzie's death

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a 56-year-old man who was attacked in the middle of the day in Glasgow.

Officers were called in Rotherwood Ave, Knightswood, at 12:55 on Tuesday.

William McKenzie was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary were he later died from his injuries.

The suspect is described as white, in his 40s, with short, thick, black hair and wearing a red hooded top under a black padded jacket.

He was last seen crossing on to the grass area at Cowdenhill Road into Knightscliffe Avenue towards the junction with Fulton Street, Glasgow.

Busy bus route

Strathclyde Police said there may have been contact between the two men, prior to the attack, in Wilverton Road.

Detectives want to speak to two women, in their early 20s with blonde hair, who are believed to have been in the area at the time of the incident.

Det Insp Fil Capaldi said there was no clear motive for the attack.

He said: "This is a very busy area and at that time of the day there would have been lots of people around.

"It's also a busy bus route and we would appeal for anyone who may have seen anything or who has any information about the incident or the person responsible to contact us."

Officers are currently gathering CCTV footage, and additional high visibility patrols have been put in place.
