Men jailed over car cannabis haul in Lenzie

Two men caught with cannabis with an estimated value of £571,000 in their car have been jailed.

Walter Paterson, 61, and Scott Westell, 36, were sentenced to 27 months and 32 months respectively at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The pair had earlier admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug.

Previously the court heard how police found the cannabis after stopping them in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire, for a "road traffic violation".

Paterson, of Kilsyth, had been spotted driving a Citroen car from the car park of the Premier Inn hotel in Livingston, West Lothian, to Lindsaybegg Road in Lenzie.

The court also heard how officers then obtained a search warrant for Westell's house, in Pumpherston, and discovered that his property was being used as a storage facility for local drug dealers.

Passing sentence, Lord Brailsford said there was no alternative to imposing jail terms.
